Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. Today’s “Throwback Thursday” is from Monday, November 16, 2020. I’ve heard of car racing, horse racing, and dog racing, but I’m new to pigeon racing. Apparently, pigeon racing is a big deal, because a man in China just paid $1.9 million for a racing pigeon! It sounds to me like this man has flown the coop; however, that’s exactly how pigeon racing works. Pigeons are placed in a coop for months where they become acclimated and determine that this is their home. The pigeons are then transported hundreds of miles away at which time they are released racing to find their way back to the coop. Now the underlying support of pigeon racing is gambling, so I would not expect Christians to engage in the sport—even if it sounds interesting. The question is, how do these pigeons find their way back? They have an innate homing ability from their Creator. Of course, racing pigeons are not alone in this: there are many species of birds and other animals that migrate annually. While scientists are often puzzled as to the reason for this migration, it seems that the ability may be a leftover from the Ark episode in Genesis 9:20, where God tells Noah that, “two of every sort shall come unto thee to keep them alive.” Noah didn’t have to go collect the animals—they came to him! While there is no Ark or impending flood today, animals are still doing what God caused them to do thousands of years ago to ensure the preservation of their species. All of Creation is amazing because The Creator is amazing. Let us praise Him for His amazing Creation!
