Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. In a previous call one year ago, I mentioned that MD-210, Indian Head Highway, is my second favorite highway next to the Baltimore Washington Parkway. Needless to say, I was disappointed when Gov. Hogan recently signed into law the name change of Indian Head Highway to Piscataway Highway. I have nothing against the Piscataway Indians—or any other Indians for that matter–but I like the name, “Indian Head Highway.” The highway was so named because Indian Head, MD, used to be known as the Indian Headlands where the local Indians lived; over time, the name was shortened to Indian Head. Indian Head Highway ended in Indian Head, MD—makes a lot of sense. I will not be calling Indian Head Highway by its new name, and I pity all of the businesses on MD-210 who will now have to change their addresses. The modern descendants of the Piscataway Indians are headquartered in their Waldorf hunting grounds and have a website that I have read; they sound very angry, they want their land back, and they want all of us to pay them taxes. They don’t just want Indian Head, MD, or Indian Head Highway, they basically want the entire Washington, DC, metro area! Somehow, I don’t think renaming Indian Head Highway to Piscataway Highway is going to appease them. European settlers introduced much to the Indians but nothing more important than the Gospel of Jesus Christ. While mutual mistreatment and disrespect is historical, an eternal perspective is essential. Indians will comprise that great crowd around the throne in Revelation 7:9. In eternity, who will even care about a piece of real estate?
