Hello, this is pastor gary from first baptist church of laplata. On July 21, 2021, I informed you that I would visit the Mormon Temple in Kensington, MD, when it opened to the public in May of 2022. My family and I visited the temple yesterday. As expected, the facility was very clean, and the tour guides were very friendly. We saw a strange concoction of Judaism, Christianity, and Masonry. We saw the baptismal pool where proxy baptism for the dead occurs; we saw the sealing rooms where Mormons are married for eternity. What we did not see was the story about how Joseph Smith stole what he published as the Book of Mormon from a printer in Pittsburgh, PA, and how the stolen book was actually a fictional account of the origin of the American Indians written by an author in Amity, PA, where I used to live. Joseph Smith combined the Old Testament, the New Testament, the so-called Book of Mormon, and Masonry to invent a Christian-like religion. Mormons use the King James Version of the Bible but trust it only as it has been translated correctly. Mormons also believe they are saved by grace through faith after all they can do. Mormonism is classified as Christian, but is anything but. You will never meet nicer, cleaner, or more dedicated people; sadly, these traits don’t save anyone. Hear my favorite passage again, Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves it is the gift of God not of works lest any man should boast.”
